    • Developed by: Sledgehammer Games
    • Genre: Action Adventure

So a recently released photo of a big number 3 has been featured in the Official Playstation Magazine UK with the caption, "The biggest game in the world returns". Now this all but confirms that the release of Modern Warfare 3 is immanent, but the question is; will we be seeing more of the same or will the series be ready to take another strong leap forward? More after the break

The photo is pictured here and obviously pays homage to the Modern Warfare franchise by continuing the numbered sequel with the trademark night vision green color. Knowing Activion's ways of handling franchises, a sequel should be expected 99.99% of the time when a game does well in terms of sales. What's also known about Activision is that they will keep producing sequel after sequel until the market is completely saturated (e.g. Guitar Hero). With that in mind, it's only natural to think that the same thing is to be done to the Modern Warfare franchise.

Every year we are presented with another iteration of a Call of Duty game put out by Activision that tries to make an improvement on the previous version. Last year we were given Black Ops, which was an improvement over the horribly unbalanced Modern Warfare 2. The main things that made this game an improvement were the story and balancing of the multiplayer modes, along with some added extras.

This was all well and good since the story took place in the 1960's and made the player feel more engaged in the missions that they were accomplishing. Now lets remember the Modern Warfare story. Actually, does anyone even know what's going on in the Modern Warfare story? The average player was so confused by the plot twists, multiple lead characters and villains, and the lack of character development that some didn't even bother playing the story mode. Now to be fair, Infinity Ward has seen a lot of changes since the release of Modern Warfare 2 in terms of the staff. So one may argue that it will be like an entirely new team working on the project. But, even with a new team working on part 3, how much will that have an effect on a game that is seemingly controlled heavily by Activion? Only time will tell if this new game will be a small step forward, or a giant leap back.

    Modern Warfare 3 takes on
Battlefield 3 with ‘bigger maps, destructible environments’

    Activision’s Modern
Warfare 3 will reportedly go head-to-head with Battlefield 3 by
focusing on large-scale maps and destructible environments, two of the
features that have helped EA’s rival FPS franchise earn its strong
    following.
That’s according to Kotaku, which says it has been informed by
“sources who have seen the game in action” that the threequel raises
the bar for the Modern Warfare series.
Still unannounced but set for release this autumn, the site reports
that Modern Warfare 3 is indeed in development at Infinity Ward, which
is being aided by another Activision team, perhaps Sledgehammer Games.
The title is said to continue the story of Modern Warfare 2, which
saw Russian forces invade the US. The site was told MW3 will deliver a
“world in crisis” feel, but that it’s unlikely to centre on a post-US
    invasion plot similar to Homefront’s.
It will have an urban setting and may include characters from Modern
Warfare 2 such as John ‘Soap’ MacTavish and Captain John Price, the
    report adds.

    Activision talks Modern
    Warfare 3 online ‘monetisation’ plans

    Activision has given the
strongest hint yet that this year’s Call of Duty release will offer
users new paid for online experiences as the company looks to better
    monetise its monster FPS franchise.
Central to these plans is new digital-focused Call of Duty studio
Beachhead, which Activision says will play a key role in delivering an
“unprecedented online universe” alongside 2011′s CoD game.
Speaking to investors on Activision’s earnings call last night, CEO
Bobby Kotick stressed that the company doesn’t plan to take away any of
the free online CoD experiences currently offered to players.
“The Beachhead initiatives will be… an integral part to the
innovation signature nature of the Call of Duty game that we’re
    releasing this year,” he said.
“And I just wanted to back up on the earlier question [and] make
sure that I underscore that while we are attempting to deliver new
incremental experiences that have yet heretofore been unseen by our
players, we are not attempting to monetise or take any experience away
that currently comes as part of the value proposition of buying the
    game.
“I think, very importantly, our community of Call of Duty players is
one that we celebrate and you will see a lot of new services and
capabilities that will be provided free of charge to all of our
    customers.”
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg added: “Well, we haven’t
yet released the details of the business model of Beachhead. The
passion that people have for the game, the amount of time they’re
willing to engage with one another in a connected way. Our goal has
been to create an experience that was amplifying enough and energising
enough and igniting enough to that community to be able to be
    monetised.”

    Modern Warfare 3 details in
    ‘the coming weeks’

There was no Modern Warfare 3 announcement last night, but we can likely expect one in “the coming weeks”.
That was essentially the message from Activision CEO Bobby Kotick,
who didn’t name-check the heavily rumoured title on Activision’s
earnings call last night, but did say news is on the way about multiple
Call of Duty initiatives in 2011.
After announcing that last year’s CoD: Black Ops has become the
bestselling game of all time in dollars across the 360, PS3 and PC in
the US and Europe, Kotick admitted: “This year’s Call of Duty has a
very high bar to exceed, yet we believe that this year’s Call of Duty
initiatives will result in the best overall Call of Duty experiences we
    have created to date.
“We’ll be releasing more details on the various Call of Duty
initiatives for this year and the coming weeks. And we expect to
support these with the largest integrated marketing and retail campaign
    we have ever executed.”
He added: “We will once again set a new benchmark for best-in-class
execution in conjunction with our partners around the world, who are
equally invested in making Call of Duty the must-have entertainment
    experience of the year.”

    Modern Warfare 3 promises
    ‘unprecedented online universe’

    Activision unsurprisingly
has high hopes for this year’s Call of Duty game, saying it will set a
new standard in the genre and include an ‘unprecedented online
    universe’.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg talked up the next CoD game in the
firm’s investors call earlier today. “By any measure, Call of Duty is
one of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world and we expect
this year’s game will set a new standard in the franchise,” he said.
“The creative excellence and sheer scale of the game we are making,
and the unprecedented online universe that will accompany it will
re-set the bar for this genre, giving players a new level of immersion,
connectivity, community and of course epic action. The game to date
has exceeded every internal milestone and we look forward to sharing it
    with you soon.”
Hirshberg went on to say the firm is committed to pouring investment
back into the Call of Duty franchise that’s been fattening its wallets
over the past few years in efforts to “take the experience to an
    entirely new level”.
Sure, without seeing the game in the flesh it’s all just hype to you,
but it certainly sounds like Activision means business and it
definitely has the money to spend. More details are expected within
    weeks.

    Call of Duty ‘micro
    transaction game’ headed for China

Activision is developing a new digital micro-transaction game in the Call of Duty franchise for release in Asia.
It said in its Q1 2011 financial results release: “The company plans
to allocate the majority of its resources and focus toward
opportunities which it expects will afford it the greatest competitive
advantages and the greatest potential for best-in-class quality,
high-margin digital growth, and long-term success.”
One of these, it reveals, includes “robust investment in forthcoming Call of Duty titles, including a micro-transaction game for China; the development of a best-in-class digital platform surrounding the Call of Duty franchise.”
No further details were divulged. The investors call is currently underway.

    No chance Activision doesn’t
retain the ‘Modern Warfare’ brand, says lawyer

    Wedbush analyst Michael
Pachter thinks former Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella
have ‘no prayer’ in winning the upcoming court battle with Activision
disputing the ownership of the ‘Modern Warfare’ brand.
“West and Zampella have no prayer of obtaining control of the brand” he told IndustryGamers. “As
it happens, they have never claimed that they ‘own’ the brand; instead,
they claim that they were granted creative control over the brand under
    their employment agreement.

“These are two completely different things. Their creative
control was clearly intended to be in effect only while they were
employees, and the day that their employment terminated, their creative
    control ended.”

He added: “If they want their old jobs back, they can ask for
them, but they didn’t do so. Instead, they are blending the two concepts
of legal and equitable remedies, asking for damages and asking for
control over the Call of Duty brand, but not asking to be reinstated as
employees. The law just doesn’t allow stuff like that, as it would be
unreasonable to require Activision to grant control over its valuable
    property to unrelated third parties.”

Ok guys found a report and call of duty, this is saying some of the information said by activation blizzard last night, I will give you the report

    No copyright intended.

    QuoteThough
Call of Duty: Black Ops is now claiming the title of "best-selling game
of all time" in the U.S. and Europe, Activision Blizzard claims the
franchises upcoming "initiatives" will be the most successful in the
    franchise's history.

During its Q1 2011 investor call, Activision Blizzard revealed that
details for the next installment in the Call of Duty franchise will be
revealed in the "coming weeks," dousing the fires of a reported Official
PlayStation Magazine UK reveal in gasoline. As expected, the game's
release was pegged for "this fall."

Though Activision Blizzard wouldn't go into detail regarding the
upcoming title, the company said the new game will feature an
    "unprecedented online experience." When pressed
for further details, it was confirmed that the upcoming title will
sport features from the Beachhead-developed "digital platform"
Activision Blizzard announced during its Q4 2010 investor call.

Beachhead's initiative is to offer an unknown level of "in-game
integration" on consoles, "invest" into the community, and help to
further monetize the Call of Duty brand.

Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick was quick to point out that the
publisher is not "taking anything away from the current game
experience." Reiterating previous promises that the company "never,
ever" charge gamers to play online. Instead, Beachhead's platform is
    expected to add other features.

Reports in January pointed to the next installment of the Call of Duty
franchise being developed by multiple teams, including the slimmed down
ranks at Infinity Ward. Developer Sledgehammer Games is also working on a
game in the Call of Duty franchise, which is described as a
    "first-person shooter, action title."

We expect to be bombarded with details leading into E3 2011 and at the actual event itself.

    Oh lawd here some rumors:

    Quote:

unannounced, sources who have seen the game in action tell Kotaku that the next Call of Duty will be a Modern Warfare 3 that pushes the bar on what people have come to expect from the series. And it hits this fall.

The yet-to-be announced sequel is under development by Infinity Ward,
though a swath of those developers left the company in a
civil-litigation uprising last year. The team is being assisted by newly
minted Activision studio Sledgehammer Games, we're told. We've also
heard that Raven Software may be involved.

The Call of Duty series has long alternated between two sets of
stories and timelines. The games made by Treyarch have typically been
set during the events of World War II, though last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops moved the setting to the Cold War of the 1960s. Starting with 2007's Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward's Call of Duties all took place in a modern day setting.

In the original Modern Warfare, a civil war breaks out in the Russia of 2011. The story continues in Modern Warfare 2,
which has a terrorist attack in Russia erroneously linked to the
United States. That leads Russian forces to invade the U.S. Some of the
missions even feature rolling ground combat in the Washington, D.C.
suburbs of Virginia and in the capital itself.

Key to the near ending of Modern Warfare 2, was the detonation
of a nuclear missile in the upper atmosphere above the Mid-Atlantic,
something that creates an electromagnetic pulse that destroyed all
electronic equipment on both sides of the raging war in D.C. Such an
event would cripple the area in the short term, essentially removing
the ability to use most technology in the region as the country tries
to rebuild or bring in support from other parts of the country. It also
seems that it could make the story a hard one to follow in a modern
    day shooter.
But our sources tell us Modern Warfare 3 will continue along
that storyline, delivering a "world in crisis" feel to the aftermath of
the U.S. invasion. However, it looks like it won't be another take on Red Dawn, a post-U.S. invasion storyline already explored by Homefront. While it's unclear where specifically the game will be set, Modern Warfare 3 will have a urban setting, much like the U.S. missions in Modern Warfare 2, with military vehicles, including tanks, rolling through suburban streets.
The story may also include prominent characters from Modern Warfare 2, like Captain John "Soap" MacTavish and Captain John Price. Modern Warfare 2
ended with Price, Soap and a Russian informant codenamed Nikolai on
the run as international fugitives following their killing of
    Lieutenant General Shepherd.

The biggest shift for the game appears to be in its breadth. We're told that Modern Warfare 3
will take place on a much larger, epic scale. It appears the game will
explore the lead up to a blossoming set of engagements that could pull
in other countries, creating a potential World War III scenario. The
game will also feature large, urban destructible environments.

The focus on larger maps and destructible environments brings to mind competitor Electronic Arts' Battlefield series which made a name for itself with those two keystones. Battlefield 3
is also set for a 2011 fall release, meaning the two games could in
theory be vying directly with one another for gamers' attention. Battlefield 3,
as shown by EA in previous events this year, will take place in a
modern setting and feature large maps and destructible environments.
We expect to hear more about the Call of Duty series and Modern Warfare 3 this summer during the annual E3 trade show.

During an earnings call to their investors, Activision released a
new wave of hype for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg told investors that he expects “this
year’s game will set a new standard in the franchise.” He also said that
the new game will have an “unprecedented online universe” that will set
    the bar in the genre.
modernwarfare3 223x300 Activision: Modern Warfare 3 will set a new standard for the franchise

The Official PlayStation Magazine UK will have more info coming next month.

“The creative excellence and sheer scale of the game we are making,
and the unprecedented online universe that will accompany it will re-set
the bar for this genre, giving players a new level of immersion,
connectivity, community and of course epic action. The game to date has
exceeded every internal milestone and we look forward to showing it to
    sharing it with you soon.”

Hirshberg also said that they have been saving up money to make this
game the best it can possibly be, and to “take the experience to an
entirely new level.” During this same call, Activision also announced a
micro-transaction game (likely a browser-based, “freemium” model) that
will be developed exclusively for China.

Is this “unprecedented online universe” simply a reiteration of the Call
of Duty formula or could it be the MMO-based play that has been
rumored? More information is coming through the Official PlayStation
Magazine UK soon, and Activision is sure to be announcing more at E3.

If this is a trustworthy source, it looks like the game will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Couldn't find another reason to have that green 3 on the book if MW3 was not the CoD of this year.
Wonder where this Call of Duty: Project Collosus came from? Maybe that is the MMO-Based game that sledgehammer is working on.

    http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/8455.html

    Prepare to be confused.

    'deep breath'

Okay, so we've heard Infinity Ward is likely cranking on Call of
Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Despite the mass exodus the studio suffered
after the Vince Zampella/Jason West fiasco, Activision apparently
    restaffed IW in record time.

Then there was the rumor that Sledgehammer Games, a designer owned
by Activision, was working on another Call of Duty installment. It was
initially purported to be an action/adventure game but was later
emended to hold the more expected first-person shooter label.

Finally, there was the rumor that Raven (Wolfenstein, Singularity)
was working on something CoD-related. Now, we've got what is supposed to
be a clarification from the LA Times
    (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/01/activision-calls-in-reinforcements-for-next-call-of-duty-following-infinity-ward-meltdown.html).

It seems both Sledgehammer and Raven are assisting Infinity Ward in
development of Modern Warfare 3. However, Sledgehammer is indeed working
on their own CoD spin-off, which is supposed to sport a sci-fi theme
    of some kind.

Sledgehammer appears to be working with IW on the single-player mode
of MW3 while Raven is handling development of the multiplayer aspect.
There. Does that clear everything up?

treyarch arnt making Modern Warfare 3 its 3 studios ( Infinity Ward,
raven and sledgehammer). Respawn is the new company made by the two
studio heads who left Infinity Ward they now work for EA and have
nothing to do with Call of duty anymore. Infinity Ward still exist with
that name and are reported to be making Modern warfare3.

Modern Warfare 3 Cover Possibly Leaked

E3 is less than a month away, and this means leaks are sure to happen. Whether the news comes from a covert employee posting on forums or a careless developer who hits the reply all button by mistake, news about upcoming E3 games finds a way of getting out in public. Today, some images have leaked for one of the most anticipated shooters of 2011.

In a forum thread of the gaming site Electric Hydra, user Powertree posted 2 alleged logos for upcoming Call of Duty games. The first image consists of a black and white call of duty logo with “MW3″ written stylishly in green. The other image features a skull, lots of guns, and the word “elite.” Powertree mentioned that he had “no idea” what elite is referring to. Elite could possibly refer to Activison’s Project Beachhead, which Activsion Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, described as:

    Citação :
…a suite of services and content plan that will unite and ignite the community like never before. The platform will support in-game integration and bring online experiences and console play together for the first time.

Today, Kotaku managed to get an image of the Modern Warfare 3 cover art. The cover art features the same stylish green logo as the image released by Powertree. Activision has not commented on the authenticity of these released images.

Tá um bocadinho igual, se isso for verdade! E mais feio o menu, na minha opinião.
Mas também o que interessa é a gameplay e os conteúdos
